What We Do

‘Strands of Love’ is part of Women’s Ministries at Venture Christian Church and Orchard Community Church. We are a group of women who knit or crochet items to be donated to those in need, in and around our community, across the country and around the world. We have made baby items for Heritage Home and Good Samaritan Hospital, and for individual families within the church, including those with newborn foster children. Some of our baby hats and blankets have gone on missions trips around the world! We have also donated afghans to InnVision, and made scarves for soldiers serving in Afghanistan.

There are many groups and organizations that can benefit from something that is just a hobby to many of us. Why not put your skills to “work” and come join us – we are all knit by God to be in His service!

Our Farm System

I've been asked to teach kids at Orchard how to knit! On March 18th I'll be teaching 6 lovely young ladies and 1 (also lovely) Sunday school teacher to make washcloths. This is a great first project to learn on. It's a ministry project for them - they will be giving these to abused women and children in the community. I will be making up "kits" for each of them with all the materials they'll need. I suggested they wrap their washcloth around a nice bar of soap, and add ribbon. This will make a nice gift!

So Strands of Love has a "farm system" - we need to keep teaching the younger ones so we never run out of knitters....:-)

Caps To The Capital

Connie brought this project to our attention. Save The Children is coordinating a national program to collect hand-knit and crochet baby hats, which they will distribute to countries around the world with high infant mortality rates. We shipped 137 hats to the program in mid-December, most of which were crocheted by Connie!

For the Boys

Last month our group made Christmas a little warmer with some hand-knit scarves for a unit of soldiers serving in Afghanistan. The request came from a soldier's wife who was coordinating Christmas packages for her husbands' Navy Seabee unit. We were more than happy to help and made 18 scarves for them.

Each scarf had a card attached with our ministry information and a bible verse on the back.
