What We Do

‘Strands of Love’ is part of Women’s Ministries at Venture Christian Church and Orchard Community Church. We are a group of women who knit or crochet items to be donated to those in need, in and around our community, across the country and around the world. We have made baby items for Heritage Home and Good Samaritan Hospital, and for individual families within the church, including those with newborn foster children. Some of our baby hats and blankets have gone on missions trips around the world! We have also donated afghans to InnVision, and made scarves for soldiers serving in Afghanistan.

There are many groups and organizations that can benefit from something that is just a hobby to many of us. Why not put your skills to “work” and come join us – we are all knit by God to be in His service!

Soldier Scarf Pattern

Here's the pattern for the scarf I was knitting at the last meeting. No, you do not have to knit this pattern! I'm posting it because several of you asked for it. You can knit any pattern you like in between the ribbing on the ends - just make it "manly." :-)
The deadline is November 7th to turn them in. We're also meeting on November 14th so we could stretch the deadline, but I want to get them washed and tagged well before Thanksgiving so they can be sent off as soon as possible. THANKS!!

Quick Hat

In case you're hunting for an easy hat pattern, here's a really easy one I made up tonight. I was surprised how fast it knit up. It would be even faster if it was just striped - the rows with the broken color took twice as long as a regular row. This is just a basic hat recipe, and it's knit flat and seamed. This size (CO of 64 st) fits me, so it should be made bigger for an adult male. We should make an assortment of sizes anyway.
The pattern:
Size 10 1/2 needles
Gauge = 4 st per inch
CO on 64(72, 80, 88) st
Knit 2" of K2, P2 ribbing (7-8 rows)
Knit 4" of stockinette - change colors for stripes if you want (always change color on RS and use that color for an even number of rows)
Decrease for crown:
K6, K2tog, repeat to end of row
Purl across
K5, K2tog, repeat to end of row
Purl across
K4, K2tog, repeat to end of row
Purl across
K3, K2tog, repeat to end of row

K2, K2tog, repeat to end of row

K1, K2tog, repeat to end of row

Cut yarn, leaving enough length to use for seaming
Thread darning needle through remaining stitches, pull off needle and cinch tight
Weave in any ends
